What to wear in snowy/cold weather.?

I currently live in Atlanta, Ga and I have spent most of my life living in sunny sandal weather type places (ie Hawaii, Texas, Florida). With that being said, I am moving moving to Erie, PA in a few weeks. I know it snows heavily there and gets very cold. I only own one pair of boots (and those are military issue), so can some one please tell what kind of clothes I need for Erie weather and maybe the name of a few good cold weather clothing and shoe brands.
