How to tell this guy I like him?

I really like this guy. I'm going to be a junior in highschool, and he just graduated. We hung out at chool a lot last year, and we've hung out a couple times this summer so far. My best friend is dating one of hi friends, soo it's easy for us to hang out. I want to text him, and come right out and tell him I like him. Since we don't go to school together anymore, there won't e any awkwardness if he doesn't like me back. How should I go about telling him?
